Motion design proposal template

A complete proposal you can send after filling in the brackets. Copy the text or download the PDF, then make it yours.

Make it yours before sending

  1. Replace every [bracket] with the client's real details. Search for "[" to catch them all.
  2. Set real prices in the investment tiers, and cut to one option if tiers do not fit the job.
  3. Rewrite "Understanding your goals" in the client's own words from your call. It is the section they read closest.
  4. Delete anything that does not apply. A shorter, true proposal beats a longer, generic one.

Motion design proposal

Motion design proposal prepared for [Client Company]

1. About this proposal

Prepared for [Client Company] by [Your Name], [Date].

Thank you for considering me to animate for [Client Company]. This proposal covers how your message becomes a finished piece of motion: script, storyboard, animation, and sound, with approvals placed exactly where changes are still cheap.

2. Understanding your goals

[Client Company] needs [describe: an explainer video, an animated logo, product UI animations, social motion assets] that makes [message or product] land in seconds for [audience].

The piece needs to feel [describe: clean and techy, warm and hand-made, bold and kinetic], fit your brand, and be ready for [launch date or campaign].

3. How I will work

  1. Phase 1, Script and storyboard. We lock the message, then I write or refine the script and draw a storyboard: every scene, on paper, before any animation. This is the cheap place to change your mind, and I encourage it here.
  2. Phase 2, Style frames. I design [2] full-fidelity still frames that define the exact look: color, texture, type, and illustration style. You approve the look before motion begins.
  3. Phase 3, Animation. I animate the approved storyboard in the approved style, delivering a full animatic first if the piece is long, then the polished cut with [2] revision rounds.
  4. Phase 4, Sound and delivery. Voiceover is recorded by [a professional VO artist / your chosen voice], music and sound effects are licensed, and you receive masters plus cutdowns for every agreed platform.

4. What is included

  • A finished motion piece of up to [length] seconds at [resolution]
  • Script and storyboard, approved by you before animation
  • [2] style frames defining the visual direction
  • Professional voiceover and licensed music and sound design
  • Cutdowns and aspect ratios for [platforms: 16:9, 1:1, 9:16]
  • Master files, with editable project files [included / available for [Amount]]

5. What is not included

  • Live-action filming (this is animation; filmed footage can be supplied by you)
  • Character animation beyond [complexity level] (quoted separately)
  • Paid media placement

8. Why work with me

  • Approvals sit at the storyboard and style-frame stage, where changing your mind costs a conversation, not a re-animation
  • Everything on screen is cleared: voiceover, music, and sound are licensed for your stated uses
  • One motion system, so every future asset moves like it belongs to your brand

9. Terms in plain English

This proposal is valid for [30] days. A deposit of [amount or %] is due to begin, with the balance due [on delivery / per the schedule]. Work outside the scope above is quoted separately before it starts.

The storyboard and style frames are the creative contract: animation matching them is deemed on-brief, and a change of direction after animation begins is new work, quoted before it starts. Voiceover and music are licensed for the uses named in this proposal; broadcast or paid placement beyond them may need an upgraded license.

10. Getting started

To move forward, approve this proposal in writing and I will send the agreement and the deposit invoice. We can begin as soon as the deposit is received.
